“The objectified melancholy of the temporal seems to bethe likely source of the gentle melancholy of LászlóFehér's paintings and the characteristic lassitude and fragility of hisfigures. Paradoxically, the silence, the stillness, the lack of theatricalityand events, the solitude of the vast empty spaces, the weightlessness of thetiny, fragile, transparent figures, the timelessness of the state ofexpectation turned into a state of being—all of these function to highlight ourexperience of time, a temporal process made personal and impersonal at the sametime: passing and transience, repetition, and the feeling of déjà vu. In LászlóFehér's universe, everyone is in transit, and everything is ephemeral; everywhere we discover the quiet, hidden, objectified melancholy of thetemporal. The characters on his canvases seem to have landed in theirparticular spaces purely by chance; we feel that they are occupying theirspaces only momentarily and temporarily, as if their presence were tenuous andtemporary, all the while suggesting a certain inevitability and objectivity.” (Lorand Hegyi)
