“Gianni Dessi’s paintings and sculptures reveal the thinker’s deep existential angst of losing himself inthe obscurity and chaos of reality, of losing his voice and artistic capability to shape his images, of losing his ability to create suggestive metaphors of life and responsibility. In this sense, Gianni Dessi’s voice is a voice of the Romantics of our days, the Romantics of the spiritual resistance against Nihilism, against emptiness, against in difference. He formulates powerful, dramatic visual metaphors of the speaking artist, who reveals—through his ownfear—the dangerous perspectives of disappearance of any value, any clear vision about human orientation. Gianni Dessi’ creates dramatic images of self-portraits, while he reinterprets and reintroduces old patterns andtraditional models of artist self-presentation as universal subject, as general image of the suffering man. The capacity or incapacity of speaking, shouting, expressing his own feelings and visions create a dramatic narrative in Dessi’soeuvre.” (Lorand Hegyi)
