Parkview Green Museum is pleased  to announce the opening of the exhibition “CHALLENGING BEAUTY – Insights of Italian Contemporary Art”,  featuring the most representative works of Mr. George  Wong’s Italian Contemporary Art Collection. The exhibition curated by the internationally acclaimed  curator and art historian Lorand Hegyi and will be  held from July 16th.

 

CHALLENGING  BEAUTYInsights  of Italian Contemporary Art is unique in its  reflection of the complex, fascinating and eclectic Italian artistic  practices from the 1960s to the present, which will be presented a number of  fundamental works of artists from 4 generationsspanning  artistic movements of Arte Povera, Transavantgarde, New Roman School, as well  as artistic positions of younger generations which emerged during the 1990s  and 2000s.

 

The exhibition “CHALLENGING BEAUTY – Insights of Italian  Contemporary Artdoes aspire to present the richness, the complexity and the  eclectic, multifaceted nature of contemporary Italian art and to demonstrate  the strong and widespread impact artists from these generations have had on a  global level.

▣About the Curator

 


LorandHegyi,  born in Budapest in 1954, is one of the foremost European curators and art  historians. 
 
 

Currently the director of Le Musée d'art moderne de  Saint-Etienne,  he is the former director of the Museum ModernerKunst  / Ludwig Foundation, Vienna, and founding director of the new Centre for  Contemporary Art in Naples, il Palazzo delleArti  (PAN).


Hegyi is a respected art historian and art critic specialized inmodern and contemporary art in Central and East Europe as well as in theItalian and French art scene. He curated several exhibitions for leadingartists from Central and East Europe (such as Roman Opalka, IlyaKabakov,BracoDimitrievic, Marina Abramovic, ZdenekSykora, KarelMalich,Laszlo Feher, TamasHencze, Hermann Nitsch, Günter Brus, Franz West, Lois Weinberger)as well as Italian and French artists (such as Michelangelo Pistoletto,AlighieroBoetti, Bertrand Lavier, Jean-Pierre Reynaud, Claude Viallat,Jean- Marc Bustamante and Anne et Patrick Poirier).


His exhibitions include:  “The Coexistence of Art: Central EuropeanContemporary Art” (Venice Biennale in 1993), "Abstract/Real - Reference: Malevich, Duchamp,Beuys" (Vienna,1996),"The House, the Body, TheHeart - Construction of Identities" (Vienna, 1999),"Concepts of Space"(Barcelona,2002), "Solares: TheIdeal City or the Optimism" (Valencia Biennial, 2003), "Settlements: Search for PossiblePlaces" (Saint-Etienne, 2004), "PassageEurope: Art from Central and East Europe" (Saint-Etienne, 2004), “The Giving Person”(Napoli, 2004), “Micro Narratives” (Belgrade, SaintEtienne 2007), “Islands Never Found”(Saint Etienne, Geneva, Thessaloniki 2012), “Intriguing Uncertainty- Contemporary Drawings” (Saint-Etienne2016) .


Beside hiscuratorial activity, he wrote numerous books and articles about contemporaryart and cultural criticism focusing on the social and political context ofartistic praxis in Central and East Europe as well as on the anthropologicaldiscourse of contemporary art.
